Hey! This is Mom!

Hi. This is Joanne. Finally have some time to post something online. The birth was painless thanks to the wonders of the epidural. If all births are going to be like this one, i'm sure there will be more babies to join the Zahler family.

This is the the latest picture of Ethan wrapped up in his Mothercare ENGLAND blanket complete with England Flag. Thought I would add a pic of him with his eyes open.

Last night was quite the night. Ethan has been getting supplemental formula since my breast milk doesn't meet his demand requirements.

So....last night, I had the bright idea to say- no more formula. (in the hopes that he can soley breastfeed and then my milk supply would increase.)

The result was that he suckled at the breast for about 30 minutes, fell asleep and woke up every hour, 30 minutes, 20 minutes since follow up feeds resulted in little breastmilk. Both Adam and I were at our wits ends and finally caved in and gave him a bottle of formula which put him to sleep for 4 hrs. We woke to his crying for more and a much needed diaper change. (Sticky , green, and grosss!)

Since the diaper change, he has had another bottle of formula which was around 11:30pm and is still sleeping. He should be up in an hour or so, so well try the breastfeeding thing again and see if he needs a formula top up.

As a result of the crying session(s), Adam and I both woke up with headaches but we owe it to Ethan to keep at the breastfeeding so it may look like some long nights. I'd better try to express some milk for Ethan's next feed.

Luv to you all.

Daddy Explains the Connection Between Clowns & Our Solar System

He's just had his first bath from Joanne and I. It's the most nerve-racking thing we've put him through so far but he seemed to enjoy being in the warm water at first. He then screamed the place down while we washed him. While he was being bathed his hands miraculously changed into flippers which didn't really bother either him or me.

All Wrapped Up and Nowhere to Go

Minutes after I took this photo, I changed his nappy only to be greeted with a long stream of pee that landed all over him and his new clothes (Joanne and I laughed a lot while Ethan cried). He has learned his lesson and no longer pees on himself. Now he has learned how to pee on me instead as I discovered later that day much to Joanne's amusement. We shield his you-know-what to prevent larger mess. Don't worry Mum, I won't be leaving any cups of tea close enough to him for any mischievous plans he might have inherited from Josh ;-)

First Night Un-Supervised ;-D

Here is Mum feeding Ethan during the first night we took care of him in our hospital room without any nurses around to help. We must have done okay because he survived the night and so did we! We turned the bright lights off so that he would open his eyes a little.
