Locked Ethan in the Car!!!
Great... We went to the playbarn in Settle today to was meet up with Helen and Erin and we all had a great time. After much playing and eating and drinking squash, it was time to take a tired Ethan home.
We said our goodbyes and I was a bit miffed that Ethan was very standoffish and rude when Erin tried to hug him 3 times so we were having a bit of chat. I opened the back door and put our things in the car. (Ethan was holding the car keys at the time) As I was strapping him into his car seat, he pressed the buttons on remote and locked the doors but as I was still chatting to him about being rude to Erin and how it was not ok... ) it didn't click in my mind. Meanwhile I had grabbed the keys from him and threw them to the front driver's seat.
Ethan's seat belt fastened, I slammed the door shut and then tried to get in the driver's seat. Locked! (Imminent feeling of dread as I peered in to see the keys on the seat.) Luckily, the window in the back is roll down and not electronic so I managed to push it down about an inch.
From then on , Ethan managed to get out of his arm belt in his car seat, per my instructions but couldn't undo the button to release his waist straps. (Which is a good thing regarding car safety) Nor could he reach to unlock the door or roll down the window further.
In another feat of luck, there was a garage a block and half down from where we were and chagrined, I told the gentleman at the desk that I had locked my child in the car. With a laugh, he went to the back to get a co-worker to help.
"Dave" came to the car and looked over the situation, returned to the garage and came back with copper wire. He managed to hook the car keys from the front of the car and up to the window, where I grabbed it through the window and unlocked the car using the remote from the inside of the car!!! Dave was our hero!!! Gave him a huge hug and kiss on the cheek!!
Unbelievable!!!!
This definately beats last week when at the in-laws, Ethan managed to take the only 2 keys to summer house and drop them through the slats of the front deck. It took 3 attempts on 2 different days to retrieve the keys as they didn't just fall under the summerhouse but to another slatted level below. So after much key pushing, torch flashing and cursing, it fell through the 2nd set of slats and by use of a handy rake, the keys were fetched out by Adam.
Not having any luck with keys!!!!
